  • 50 Largest Crime Labs, 2002 (from the Bureau of Justice Statistics)
Reports on the workload, backlog, and estimated resources needed to meet the demand for forensic services in the Nation's 50 largest publicly funded crime labs. Data were collected as part of the ongoing Census of Publicly Funded Forensic Crime Laboratories. Census information will be used to better understand the number of cases processed by these labs and the amount of resources required to meet the increased demand for forensic services. In developing and implementing this census, BJS worked closely with the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLAD).
  • Voice Translators for Law Enforcement Law Enforcement officers who are likely to encounter non-English-speaking individuals in the line of duty can benefit from the Voice Response Translator (VRT), and electronic device that provides translations of basic commands in several languages. The VRT is a compact, easy-to-use, and battery-operated unit with fast response time and hands-free capability.
  • Test Results for Software Write Block Tools: RCMP HDL V0.4, V0.5 and V0.7. These NIJ Special Reports present the results from testing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Hard-Disk Write Lock V0.4, V0.5, and V0.7 against Software Write Block Tool Specification & Test Plan, Version 3.0. They documents results against 21 test assertions, describes the testing environment, provides an interpretation of the test results, and includes test results summary log files for 40 test cases. The results provide the information necessary for developers to improve tools, users to make informed choices, and the legal community and others to understand the tools' capabilities. For results of RCMP HDL V0.8 and additional computer forensic tool test results, visit the Computer Forensic Tool Testing Project on the Web

NCJRS Abstracts Database

Beyond the publications in the collections above, NIJ archives final reports as submitted by awardees at the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS). Each report; along with other Federal, State, and local government reports, books, research reports, and journal articles; is abstracted and placed into the NCJRS Abstracts Database.

To help you find records related to NIJ’s technology programs, we have selected a list of technology related terms from the NCJRS Thesaurus that can be entered into the Abstract Database Subject Search box. To see a full list of terms and perform advance searches, use NCJRS's Advanced Thesaurus Search. For all records resulting from NIJ awards, enter ‘NIJ grant-related documents.’
