SPS

Origin
The Standard Procurement System is the standardized automated procurement system for use by the DoD procurement community. It is the next generation of procurement application software, that will link acquisition reform and common DoD procurement business processes with commercial best practices and advances in electronic commerce. It is the cornerstone of the Navy's paperless acquisition effort.

"SPS is a critical element... within the procurement and acquisition community and provides DoD a basis for developing business intelligence."
- Mr.Mark Krzysko, Deputy Director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy for E-Business

Current Capabilities
The current business solution for SPS involves service releases that meet the Navy contracting community requirements for: Post, camp and station; major weapon systems; contract administration; USMC, and more. There are currently over 6,500 DON operational users for SPS, with upgrades in progress for various communities within the Navy in order to satisfy specific user needs.

Future Impact
The preferred capabilities of SPS for the entire user base are to be upgraded in FY 2006 for the Department of the Navy. Some of these upgrades will include:
-Web enabled enhancements
-Functionality Themes
-Performance Improvement
-Records Management
-Modification Process/JRB identified software fixes
-Inventory Control Point Functionality
-ICP currently reviewing additional functionality to assess deploy-ability
-Acquisition Work Force reductions "absorbed" through the use of SPS
-Adapter and "translator" (data maps and business rules) will replace existing SPS-I point to point interfaces
