The National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act of 1995 allows NASA to transfer surplus equipment to schools. Now called "Computers to Schools," the program enables the implementation of national education goals by promoting technical and scientific education activities at all levels.

In the past six years over $11 million in equipment has been transferred to educational sites in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

In Mississippi, the State Department of Education provides the Stennis Office of Education with a list of schools with high priority educational technology needs. As computers come available the schools are provided the surplus equipment.

In 1995, the Stennis Office of Education received NASA's Group Achievement Award for its success in implementing the Computers to Schools program.
