September 7-10:  22nd MEDWeek 2004 ConferenceAnimated new

  • Senior staff from the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity will participate in the MEDWeek Conference scheduled September 6-10, 2004, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington, DC. The conference will address issues affecting minority business enterprises.

September 7-9: 12th National Indian Business Association (NIBA)

  • Senior staff from the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity will participate in the NIBA meeting scheduled Septebmer 7-9, 2004, at the J.W. Marriott, Washington, DC. The conference will highlight "Building Stronger Communities through Economic Development."  Participants include Federal Government officials, business communities, and private sector.

September 8-9: National Latina Symposium - Latina Stule Magazine

  • The Director will participate in the National Latina Symposium to be held in Washington, DC. The conference will bring together professional businesses, and key corporations to discuss procurement and small business opportunities.

September 8-11: Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference:Animated new

  • Senior staff will participate in the CBCF 34th Annual Legislative Conference to focus on future opportunities in the areas of education, and small and minority business development. The conference will be held in Washington, DC.

September 12-15: National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week Conference: Animated new

  • The Director and senior staff will participate with the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) in activities to strengthen the capacity of HBCU's to provide excellence in education and to discuss critical issues that impact HBCU's. The Director, Theresa Alvillar-Speake, will speak on Wednesday, September 15, 9:00am - 10:00am: "HBCU's: A Foundation Built on Excellence -- Investing in a Bold New Future." This event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Washington Hotel, Washington, DC.

September 17:  National Hispanic University (NHU)Animated new

  • The Director will participate as special guest at a dedication ceremony of Sobrato Hall and Dr. Roberta Cruz Plaza, in San Jose, California.

September 15-18: U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual National Convention and Business Expo

  • Senior Staff will participate in the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual National Convention and Business Expo, scheduled September 15-18, 2004, in Austin, TX.  The Business Expo will focus on business opportunities and sharing information regarding the business arena.  Representatives include the business community, government officials and private industry.

September 21: EEO/Diversity Managers Meeting: Animated new

  • The Office of Civil Rights and Diversity will host its next quarterly meeting of DOE EEO/Diversity Managers to be held at the Forrestal Building. The meeting was timed in conjunction with the ED Quarterly special emphasis program the following day (Wednesday, September 22).

September 22:  3rd Quarter Special Emphasis Program: National Hispanic Heritage Month and DOE Multicultural Day Animated new

  • The Office of Economic Impact and Diversity upcoming 3rd quarter Special Emphasis Program recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month and DOE Multicultural Day is tentatively scheduled for September 22, 2004, 10:30 am to 11:30 am in the Forrestal Auditorium with simulcast to Germantown.  The guest speaker for the event is New Mexico former Governor Jerry Apodaca.  Deputy Secretary Kyle McSlarrow will make brief remarks.

September 22: iComplaints TrainingAnimated new

  • The Office of Civil Rights and Diversity will host a training session on the complaints tracking system for both DOE Headquarters and a Field iComplaints users.  The training will be held from 1:00pm to 5:00pm EST in the Forrestal Building with video teleconferencing training for most of the field sites.

September 24:  United States Hispanic Contractors Association (USHCA) Animated new

  • The Director will participate as the featured speaker at the 2004 National Conference to be held September 23-25 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The theme of this year's conference is "Framing the Future:  Diversity Builds the American Dream." The conference will highlight diversity and business opportunities.

September 26-October 2:  National Hispanic Engineering and Technology Week (HESTEC)

  • The Director, Office of Economic Impact and Diversity will participate in the National Hispanic Engineering and Technology Conference on September 26 through October 2, 2004, to be held in Austin, TX. The conference will highlight business opportunities.

October 5-8: National Bankers Association (NBA) 77th Annual Convention Animated new

  • Senior staff will participate in the 77th Annual National Bankers Association Convention to be held in Nashville, TN. The conference will focus on new and improve banking policies, and changes in the banking industry and "best practices."

October 7: Hispanic College Fund Scholarship Awards Gala: Animated new

  • The Office of Economic Impact and Diversity hopes to promote future partnerships between DOE and the Hispanic higher education community at the Annual Gala held in Washington, DC.

October 14-15: 19th Annual Convention of the National Hispanic Women's Corporation: Animated new

  • The Director will participate in the 19th Annual Convention of the National Hispanic Women's Corporation to be held in Phoenix, Arizona.  The event will focus on education and business opportunities.

October 16-19: Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities 18th Annual Conference:Animated new

  • The Director will participate in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities 18th Annual Conference in Miami, Florida.  The event will focus on education and business opportunities.

October 21-24: Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS): Animated new

  • Senior staff will participate in the Science and Science Policy: Constructing an Inclusive Paradigm.  The event will encourage Chicanos and Native Americans to pursue careers in energy-related fields. The conference will also explore science policy issues and how they affect the Chicano and Native American communities and to ensure that these communities have a voice in creating science policy which dictates the funding and direction of scientific research.

October 25-26: Business Women's Network (BWN) Diversity Summit: Animated new

  • The Director will participate in the Business Women's Network Diversity Summit to be held in Washington, DC.  The event will focus on business opportunities.

October 26:  Introduction to Human Resources for Supervisors, Managers and Team Leaders: Animated new

  • The Office of Civil Rights and Diversity staff will participate as subject matter experts for the EEO/Diversity portion of the upcoming training session entitled "Introduction to HR for Supervisors, Managers and Team Leaders." The training session will be facilitated by Shelley Price of the Office of Personnel Management.

October 29:  Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund 4th Annual Leadership Institute: Animated new

  • On October 29 - November 1, 2004, senior staff from the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity will participate in workshops and discussions to help sharpen the leadership skills and educational excellence for students preparing to enter the workplace.  The conference will be held in New York City, with representatives from the private sector, Federal government and others.

November 12: Latina Style Magazine - Business Series: Animated new

  • The Director will participate in the Latina Style Magazine - Business Series to be held in Atlanta, GA.  The conference will bring together professional businesses, and key corporations to discuss procurement and small business opportunities.
