Donald S. Wasserman, Chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), announced today that the Authority (the decisional component of the FLRA) will convene a focus group of customers. The focus group will meet on July 19, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the FLRA's headquarters at 607 14th Street, N. W., Washington, D.C., 20424. The group will be requested to provide their views on the quality of the Authority's written legal decisions and the measures that can be used in assessing that quality.
In addition, using the attached Federal Register notice (Adobe Acrobat PDF version), the Authority is also soliciting written comments on these issues. Written comments should be submitted to the Office of Case Control, also located at 607 14th Street, N. W., Washington, D.C., 20424 and may include responses to specific questions included in the Federal Register notice. (65 FR 38279). Written comments must be received by July 31, 2000.
Urging FLRA customers to participate and provide feedback, Chairman Wasserman stated, "The Authority is committed to excellence in the quality and timeliness of its written legal decisions. The views of agencies, unions, and other interested persons as to how we might assess and improve this process will be invaluable."
The FLRA is an independent agency that administers the labor-management relations program for 1.9 million non-Postal Service Federal employees worldwide, approximately 1.1 million of whom are exclusively represented in 2,200 bargaining units. It is charged with providing leadership in establishing policies and guidance related to Federal sector labor-management relations and with resolving disputes under and ensuring compliance with the Statute.
