WASHINGTON -- The Bureau of Export Administration Export Enforcement unit (EE) has an internet location that will make it easier for public input into the development of its 5-year strategic plan for future programs. The strategic plan is being developed as part of the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA). By soliciting public input, EE hopes to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of exporters, freight forwarders, consultants, attorneys and others who work with export controls in their daily business dealings.
The web page contains a special section explaining the strategic planning program and a questionnaire where people can respond regarding the management and operational challenges EE should address. Comments should be received by June 30, 1997. The results will be announced at BXA's Update conference Export Enforcement sessions, July 8 and 9 in Washington, DC. The results will also be available on the web site.
"As we approach the 21st century, EE faces greater threats from terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. We need to continue to develop strategies to combat those threats and maintain our status as a premier law enforcement organization without unduly burdening exporters. I am confident that input from the exporting community will improve the planning process and our performance over the long term," said Frank Deliberti, acting assistant secretary for export enforcement.
