TVA To Lower Level of Bear Creek Reservoir
September 7, 2004
RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. – TVA will lower water levels at Bear Creek Reservoir
this fall approximately 15 feet below the normal winter level to permit the Franklin
County Water Service Authority to construct a water intake structure for a new water
treatment plant and raw water pumping station.
TVA will take advantage of the drawdown to do maintenance on the dam and
intake structure. The drawdown is scheduled to begin during the week of Sept. 26
and continue until the water reaches an elevation of 550 feet above sea level during
the week of Oct. 24.
The construction of the water intake is scheduled to be completed by mid-
November, and the reservoir is expected to return to normal winter levels in January
2005.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely selffinanced. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that
serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also
manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits,
including flood control, navigation, water quality, water supply and recreation.
