New Vice President, Plant Manager Named at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant

ATHENS, Ala. – Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Manager Mike Skaggs has been promoted to Browns Ferry vice president and Assistant Plant Manager Kurt Krueger has been promoted to plant manager.

Skaggs will fill a vacancy created by the promotion of former Browns Ferry Vice President Ashok Bhatnagar to senior vice president of Nuclear Operations. Krueger will take over Skaggs’s position of plant manager.

“Mike and Kurt each have two decades of experience in nuclear power and the electric utility industry, ” said TVA Chief Nuclear Officer Karl Singer in announcing the promotions. “TVA is fortunate to have people with the knowledge, experience and management skills to be able to promote from within the organization.”

Skaggs was assistant plant manager before being named plant manager. He also has served as Browns Ferry maintenance and modifications manager and worked on the chief nuclear officer’s staff in Chattanooga. Skaggs joined TVA in 1994 as a senior project manager at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in Spring City, Tenn., and held several other positions at that plant.

He also has experience in TVA’s Transmission/Power Supply Group. Before joining TVA he worked for Texas Utilities. Skaggs earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University.

Krueger, who has experience in commercial and military nuclear power, was named Browns Ferry assistant plant manager in October 2003. He came to TVA following a 13-year career with Public Service Enterprise Group where he held posts of increasing responsibility in the operations groups at Hope Creek and Salem nuclear generating stations.

Krueger entered the commercial nuclear industry after five years’ service in the nuclear U.S. Navy. He earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rhode Island with emphasis studies in control systems and thermal engineering.

Skaggs lives in Madison, and Krueger lives in Athens.

TVA operates five nuclear units, two at Browns Ferry, two at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Chattanooga, Tenn., and one at Watts Bar.
