TVA To Lower Water Level in Cedar Creek Reservoir

September 30, 2004

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. -- TVA will lower water levels at Cedar Creek Reservoir approximately four feet below the normal winter level this fall. The drawdown will begin Friday, Oct. 1, and continue until the water level reaches an elevation of 562 feet above sea level by Nov. 26.

The Water Works and Sewer Board of Russellville requested the drawdown to excavate the receiving channel for a new water intake pumping station. Excavation is scheduled to be completed by the end of the third week in December, and the reservoir is expected to return to normal winter levels in January 2005.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely selffinanced. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood control, navigation, water quality and recreation.
