Chattanooga CFC Campaign Kicks Off September 15

September 15, 2004

TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area will kick off the 2004 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign on Wednesday, September 15, with a goal of raising more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies.

The CFC kickoff will begin with a breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center. More than 300 officials and campaign workers representing many federal agencies (civilian, postal and military) are expected to attend the kickoff event.

In conjunction with this year’s CFC theme, “Building Hope,” Tina Harr, director of Program Services with the YMCA, is the keynote speaker. Tina will speak about the support her family received from CFC-supported agencies during her son’s illness. Entertainment will be provided by Queen McClain, accompanied by David Anthony.

The CFC kickoff will continue with a fair from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on 12th Street between Broad and Chestnut streets, where agencies that benefit from CFC contributions will have exhibits and booths. The fair is open to all federal workers and retirees so they can see how their contributions are used by charitable, health and human services organizations in the 20 counties covering Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.

Federal workers also learned about the various agencies during the annual CFC Day of Caring held Sept. 10 and 11, when more than 300 employees provided hands-on assistance to 33 local agencies that received contributions from the CFC.

Both the 2002 and 2003 Chattanooga Area CFCs raised more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies—the highest amounts ever, increasing total gifts since 1987 to more than $21 million. Chattanooga area federal employees have been honored several times for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide.

Funds raised through 352 CFC campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies. Detailed information on the CFC and the 2003 campaign can be found at http://www.chattanoogacfc.org.
