TVA Combined Federal Campaign Kicks Off Oct. 1

September 30, 2004

Knoxville-area TVA employees will kick off the 2004 Smoky Mountain Region Combined Federal Campaign Friday, Oct. 1, with a goal of raising $475,000 from employee contributions.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations.

The kickoff program, “CFC: Building Hope for All Seasons,” featuring entertainment by TVA employees, will begin at 12:45 p.m. in the West Tower Auditorium. John Long, executive vice president of human resources and chair of TVA’s Smoky Mountain Region CFC, will open the program and introduce TVA Directors Skila Harris and Bill Baxter.

“Our 2004 campaign theme is ‘Building Hope,’ and we have the opportunity to make a change for the better in the lives of many families who need us,” said Long. “As chair of TVA’s Smoky Mountain Region CFC, I look forward to working with TVA employees and other federal agencies to continue the success we’ve had in the past.”

TVA’s 2004 campaign will continue through Oct. 29. Last year, TVA employees raised more than $536,000 for charitable and service organizations – its highest amount ever, increasing total gifts since 1995 to more than $4 million.

TVA’s campaign co-chair is Rose Sexton, manager of TVA Police business services. Postmaster General Robert McClendon serves as Smoky Mountain executive campaign chair.

The Smoky Mountain region includes federal employees in 22 counties in East Tennessee, two counties in North Carolina, one county in Kentucky and one county in Virginia.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely selffinanced. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
