Colbert Employees Raise Money for Local Schools

CHEROKEE, Ala. – Colbert Fossil Plant employees raised more than
$27,000 for Cherokee High, Middle and Elementary schools during its second
annual Partners in Education Golf Tournament held at the Cypress Lakes Golf
and Country Club in Muscle Shoals.
Participants included 44 business partners who donated items for a
tournament raffle and amounts ranging from $50 to $2,000.
“Thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who helped make our
second tournament such a success,” said Joel Love, Partners in Education
coordinator for Colbert Fossil Plant. “We are absolutely amazed at the response
from our business partners and local community, who helped us raise a total of
$41,000 in the first two years of our event.”
Local participants included Quad Cities Electric Motor, Listerhill Total
Maintenance, Lewis Electric, Parkes Mechanical, Pettus Mechanical, Dick's
Sporting Goods, Sheffield Utility and Piggly Wiggly in Iuka, Miss. National and
international contributors included General Electric, Westinghouse, Siemens,
STAPLES, Tool Smith, LOCTITE and Master Lock.

Valley in providing a quality education to ensure that the future workforce has the
knowledge and skills necessary to meet challenges of the future. The program
involves more than 80 schools in the Tennessee Valley region.
