TVA To Repair Kentucky Dam Spillway Apron
August 12, 2004
GRAND RIVERS, Ky. – Work to repair the spillway apron below TVA’s
Kentucky Dam is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 16, and last until December.
TVA officials advise boaters and fishermen to keep a safe distance from
work boats and equipment on the riverbank in the area downstream of the dam
while the work is in progress over the next four months.
The spillway apron is a concrete ramp connected to the dam under the
spillway gates. Water flows down the apron when the spillway gates are open.
The apron’s concrete has eroded over the years and will be repaired underwater
by divers using concrete pumped from the riverbank to the spillway.
A barge and diver support boats will be in the tail waters below the dam during the repair work, and boaters should keep clear for their safety as well as
the safety of divers and other workers. Fishermen using the riverbank in the area
should also stay a safe distance from cranes and other support equipment
located on the shore.
