TVA Police Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

August 9, 2004

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will arrive at TVA Saturday, Aug. 21 to examine all aspects of the TVA Police, TVA Police Director James Carver said today.

TVA Police first became accredited in 1998. To maintain accredited status, it must undergo reassessment every three years. TVA Police was assessed and reaccredited in 2001. This is its second reaccreditation effort.

Administered by CALEA, the team will be onsite to verify that TVA Police meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards. The accreditation program is a voluntary process that requires agencies to comply with professional law enforcement standards in four basic areas—policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As a part of the onsite assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to call toll free, 1 -888-640-5912, to offer comments. CALEA assessors will accept calls between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23. Calls are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

Persons wishing to submit written comments about TVA Police’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Inc., 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely selffinanced. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
