TVA Names Nuclear Professionals of the Year

March 13, 2002

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Six TVA Nuclear employees, chosen from TVA’s three nuclear plants, have been selected as Nuclear Maintenance and Radiological/Chemistry Professionals of the Year.

Charles W. Lynn of Athens, Tennessee, a machinist foreman at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant; Ronnie G. Lewis of Chattanooga, a senior instrument mechanic foreman at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant; and David A. White of Florence, Alabama, a steamfitter at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, were recognized by TVA.

Three TVA employees have been chosen as Radiological/Chemistry Professionals of the Year: George Crowley of Athens, Tennessee, a chemist at Watts Bar; Thomas C. Cothran of Chattanooga, a chemistry technician at Sequoyah; and Jimmy R. Reatherford of Florence, a radwaste laborer at Browns Ferry.

“These employees clearly demonstrate professionalism and cast positive shadows of influence for their peers to follow,” said TVA Chief Nuclear Officer John Scalice. “This type of performance is essential in helping us achieve excellence and meet our goals of safe and reliable operation.”

The Nuclear Maintenance Professional of the Year award is given to individuals who exemplify the values of TVA Nuclear’s maintenance professional code—safety, pride in work, teamwork, performance, positive attitude, and effective communication.

The Radiological/Chemistry Professional of the Year award is given to radiological or chemistry professionals who exemplify TVA Nuclear’s Radiological/Chemistry professional code. They are chosen based on how well they demonstrate safety and TVA’s values.

Co-workers nominate employees for the honors, and employee teams select quarterly winners. Yearly winners are selected from the quarterly winners.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
