Combined Federal Campaign Kicks Off September 6

Knoxville-area TVA employees will kick off the 2002 Combined Federal Campaign
Friday, September 6, with a goal of raising $390,000 from employee contributions.
TVA
Director Bill Baxter, chairman of the Smoky Mountain Region CFC, will
kick off the campaign at 7:30 a.m. at a breakfast for employees on the
plaza between the TVA towers. Several hundred employees and retirees are
expected to attend.
From
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. executives from TVA and other Knoxville federal agencies
as well as local businesses will cook and sell hot dogs on Market Square
for Downtown United for United Way. TVAs executive chef
will be Chief Operating Officer Ike Zeringue. TVA CFC kick-off activities
will wind up at 7 p.m. with a meal for second-shift employees.
TVA
employees and retirees have been known for their generosity in previous
years, and this years CFC campaign will continue that tradition.
Giving to these United Way agencies helps us give back to the communities
that we live in. In addition, TVA employees are supporting several Knoxville
charities by volunteering on September 11 for the National Day of Caring,
said Baxter.
The
CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute
to charitable, health, and human service organizations.
The
2002 Smoky Mountain Region CFC will continue through October 18. Last
year, TVA employees contributed $477,205a 27 percent increase over
the campaign goal of $375,000. Since 1995, the TVA Smoky Mountain Region
CFC has raised more than $3,000,000.
TVA
CFC co-chairs this year are Rose Sexton, manager of TVA Police Business
Services, and Ray Asbury, information services decision support for Human
Resource Systems. Baxter is both the Smoky Mountain Region and Knoxville
TVA executive campaign manager, and he is a member of the United Way Executive
Cabinet.
The
Smoky Mountain region includes federal employees in 22 counties in East
Tennessee, one county in Kentucky, and one county in Virginia.
TVA
is the nations largest public power producer, and its power system
is self-financed. It provides power to large industries and 158 power
distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven Southeastern states.
