Laurel Marina and Yacht Club Receives Clean Marina Award

August 9, 2002

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Laurel Marina and Yacht Club Inc. is the first to fly a Clean Marina flag in the Upper Holston Watershed and will be recognized with an award for making the Tennessee River a better, cleaner place.

The award will be presented Saturday, August 10, at Laurel Marina and Yacht Club during the National Marina Day celebration. Dalie T. Thomas, Marina President, will be accepting the award.

“To receive this designation, marinas must meet all federal, state and local regulations related to marina management,” says TVA Clean Marina coordinator Linda Harris. “They must also implement a number of recommended practices that minimize pollution and encourage boaters to become effective stewards of their water resources.”

Laurel Marina and Yacht Club, a privately owned facility, provides reservoir users with educational information and learning opportunities to improve water quality and encourage safe environmental practices.

More than 40 other marinas throughout the Tennessee Valley are currently working toward Clean Marina certifications.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
