TVA to Test Warning System at Bull Run Plant

September 17, 2002

CLINTON, Tenn. — Residents near TVA’s Bull Run Fossil Plant may hear alarms from a new emergency notification system being installed and tested at the power plant.

The new alarm system is designed to warn employees in the event of an emergency at the plant. It will be tested between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, and Thursday, September 19.

Local community and law enforcement officials have been notified of the alarm testing. Persons should ignore alarms from the site during the testing period and not report them to 911 emergency dispatchers. The alarm system has three different tones and also can be used for voice messages.

Bull Run is located on the Clinch River near the Claxton Community in Anderson County. The plant generates about six billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to supply more than 400,000 homes.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
