Chattanooga-Area CFC Raises More Than $1.5 Million

December 11, 2002

TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area have set a new Combined Federal Campaign record, collecting pledges of $1,510,800 and exceeding their goal of $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies.

TVA employees lead the 2002 CFC with pledges totaling $1,283,000, an increase of more than $22,100 from last year’s campaign.

“I thank Chattanooga area federal employees for their generosity this year,” said TVA’s Senior Vice President of Information Services, Diane Bunch, who served as chairperson of this year’s CFC. “We had quite a few challenges in meeting the aggressive goal we had set, but once again, employees pulled together to ‘be a hero’ for their community. They gave, and gave generously, to help those who are in need.”

Assisting Bunch were CFC cabinet members Bill Bowen of the U.S. Naval Reserve, Sharon Miller and Charlene Patty of the U.S. Postal Service, and Candyce Hitchcock of TVA. Other campaign supporters include Dennis McCloud of TVA, who served as the Greater Chattanooga CFC Board Chairman, and Sharon Moore of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, who served as Vice Chair of the Greater Chattanooga CFC Board.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health, and human-services organizations.

Between 1987 and 2001, Chattanooga-area CFC gifts totaled more than $18 million. Funds raised through the 400 nationwide CFC efforts support more than 1,500 local, national and international charitable agencies. The Greater Chattanooga Area CFC covers 20 counties in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

Chattanooga-area federal employees were honored earlier this year in a ceremony at the White House for having the highest average CFC gift of $309 per person for 2001 campaigns in the range of $1 million to $2 million worldwide. The 2001 Greater Chattanooga Area CFC resulted in gifts of more than $1,488,796 to charitable and service organizations.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
