TVA Celebrates 2002 as the Year of Clean Water

October 16, 2002

Teams from 12 watersheds throughout the Tennessee Valley will test the quality of their local water on Friday, October 18, as part of the Year of Clean Water’s National Monitoring Day.

The local effort is part of a nationwide event to raise awareness on the importance of clean water. After testing the quality of the region’s water, teams may enter their findings into a national database. The information collected will be used in a report based on data sent in from volunteers across the country.

The event is designed to increase public appreciation for the importance of water resources, celebrate water quality improvements, build a better understanding of remaining challenges and solutions, and rekindle public support.

Congress has declared 2002 as the Year of Clean Water in honor of the Clean Water Act’s 30th anniversary.

“Abundant water resources have contributed to our region’s prosperity,” said TVA Vice President of Resource Stewardship Bridgette Ellis. “As our communities continue to grow, TVA will work with our partners to help ensure that they have the information needed to protect water quality.”
