TVA
to Lower Level of Bear Creek Reservoir for Safety Inspection

RUSSELVILLE, Ala. TVA will lower the water level of Bear Creek
Reservoir this fall approximately 15 feet below the normal winter level
to permit a special dam safety inspection of the sluiceway tunnel.
The
drawdown will begin November 1 and continue until the water reaches an
elevation of 550 feet above sea level around December 2.
The
inspection and related work is scheduled to be completed by mid-December,
and the reservoir is expected to return to normal winter levels in February
2003. The work will be done to ensure the safe operation of the dam during
heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
