Maintenance to Close One Lane at Hiwassee Dam

October 9, 2002

MURPHY, N.C. – Traffic across Hiwassee Dam will be restricted to one lane at various times each day for more than two months to permit repairs and maintenance to the roadway.

The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 15. Both lanes of State Route 1314 across the dam are expected to be open to traffic by Friday, December 20.

TVA workers will do routine maintenance to the bridge, including repairing roadway cover plates, trimming expansion joints, and inspecting seals.

Depending on the date, a lane will be closed during daylight hours only, or for 24 hours. A traffic control system, providing a maximum three-minute wait, will direct traffic across the dam.
