Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)

Edgar A. Domenech was selected to be Deputy Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on April 26, 2004. He had been the Acting Deputy Director since September 2003 and had served as the Acting Director since January 2004. He is responsible for the Bureau's enforcement of the Federal firearms, explosives, and arson laws, as well as its jurisdiction relative to the Federal alcohol and tobacco diversion laws. Domenech, an ATF special agent since 1985, had served as ATF's Acting Deputy Director as of September 29, 2003. Before that, Domenech was the Deputy Assistant Director for Field Operations (East) where he oversaw ATF's law enforcement operations in eight of the Bureau's 23 nationwide field divisions.

As Special Agent in Charge of the enforcement work of the critically significant New York Field Division, from October 1999 to February 2003, Domenech led his ATF colleagues at the World Trade Center through the attacks of September 11, 2001. His strong leadership was instrumental to the rebuilding of the division's operations, and inspirational to the men and women of ATF assigned there.

Domenech began his career with ATF in 1985 as a special agent in Fort Lauderdale. He subsequently served as group supervisor of a firearms enforcement group in Miami, and as a supervisor for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking/Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (HIDTA/OCDETF) group in southern Florida during an era infamous for its extremely violent firearms, narcotics, and gang activity.

In 1995, Domenech was promoted to Headquarters where he held a number of positions that diversified his management experience within the Bureau. As the Special Agent in Charge of the Special Programs Branch, Domenech was responsible for coordinating undercover investigations and operations of the most sensitive nature. This included overseeing the use of classified, fictitious identification utilized by undercover agents, and the disbursement of emergency expense funds. As the Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge in the Office of Inspection, Domenech was responsible for overseeing the operational inspections, or internal reviews, conducted on each ATF office affiliated with the 23 field divisions.

In 1998, Domenech was appointed Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Division where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the ATF/New York Police Department Joint Firearms Task Force and the newly opened, first-of-its-kind Regional Crime Gun Center.

In July 2001, Domenech was appointed to the Federal Government's Senior Executive Service. Domenech graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a Bachelor of Science degree in Government Public Administration.
