Fulfilling U.S. treaty obligations and counterproliferation.

Arms control involves taking threat reduction efforts right to the source by assessing the threat environment first-hand. The On-Site Inspection Directorate carries out treaty inspections to make sure that weapons of mass destruction are being stored, protected and dismantled as agreed upon in our treaties.

On-Site Inspection

The United States is signatory to a growing number of international arms control treaties and other agreements whose members have consented to verification regimes, including on-site inspection activities, to demonstrate and build confidence in compliance. In the 21st Century, On-Site Inspection will play an increasingly important role in safeguarding our national security by monitoring and ensuring compliance under an increasing number of arms control treaties and agreements.
