Animals & Animal Products

Overview

Animals touch our lives in many ways, whether we think of domesticated farm animals, companion animals and pets, or wildlife that play a critical role in sustaining our nation's natural resources and ecosystems. Animals may feed us, clothe us, protect us, soothe us, and even help us to heal. Products from animals include meat and meat products, poultry products (meat and eggs), fish, shellfish, dairy products (milk and cheese), and non-food products such as fiber (wool, mohair, cashmere, and leather). CSREES provides national leadership and funding for research, education, and extension activities to improve animal health and safety; to understand related issues of livestock production, products and processing, aquaculture, and wildlife management. These activities also expand our knowledge of the impact of the human/animal interaction on environmental and economic sustainability and the well-being of animals and humans alike.
