Helicopter Crash Kills Marine, Injures 14 Troops

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan, Aug. 12, 2004 — A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed Aug. 12 in the Khowst province, according to Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan. One Marine died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. An additional 14 were injured.

The injured service members were transported to Forward Operating Base Salerno for treatment. Four personnel had injuries serious enough to require further evacuation to the hospital at Bagram Air Field. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The helicopter was destroyed in the crash, but did not burn. Hostile fire was not involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Attack helicopters and Marines on the ground secured the crash site.
