Connecting, Provisioning and Operations

New Feature!!   809 Service
Making Toll-free Commercial Calls from the DSN

With the new DSN 809 service, toll-free commercial calls can be placed from anywhere on the DSN or tactical extensions by dialing DSN 809-4-OFF DSN (809-463-3376).  This new service allows for access to commercial toll-free numbers (e.g., calling card access numbers, toll-free collect call numbers, corporate technical support numbers, etc.).  This new, Joint Staff-approved service is available to all DSN users (within the constraints of local commander guidelines).

To use the new service:

- Dial your local DSN access code, plus 809-4-OFF DSN (809-463-3376).
- Await the second dial tone.
- Dial your toll free number (e.g., 1-800-123-4567).

Connecting to the DSN

All DSN hardware/software/firmware is required to be certified for both Interoperability and Information Assurance before being approved for connection to the DSN.  These certifications are submitted to the DISN Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) through the Voice Connection Approval Office (VCAO) for the final Approval to Connect.  Procedures and guidance for certifying products and getting them on the Approved Products List (APL) and obtaining Approval to Connect can be found on the Connection Approval Process (CAP) page.
