A fifth generation Floridian, Congressman Adam Putnam represents the 12th District of Florida. His legislative committee assignments for the 108th Congress include the Agriculture, Budget, Government Reform, Resources and Joint Economic Committees. Congressman Putnam is one of the few Members of Congress to hold five committee assignments.

In January 2003, Congressman Putnam was appointed by Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis to serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and the Census. His ascension to the Chairmanship makes Congressman Putnam the youngest Subcommittee Chairman in the 108th Congress and one of the youngest in the history of the United States Congress. He also serves on the House Republican Policy Committee and the Republican Steering Committee.

Elected to Congress on November 7, 2000 by a margin of 57% to 43%, Mr. Putnam is a native of Bartow, Florida and is a graduate of the University of Florida (BS, Food and Resource Economics). Prior to his election to Congress he worked in his family's citrus and cattle business and served in the Florida House of Representatives. Putnam represented the 63rd District in the Florida House of Representatives from 1996 to 2000, serving as chairman of the Florida House's Agriculture Committee during the 1998-2000 term. Adam and his wife Melissa, a former teacher in the Polk County Public School System, are the proud parents of threedaughters, Abigail Anna, Elizabeth Langford and Emma Katherine. The Putnam family resides in Bartow.

In his first term in Congress, Mr. Putnam concentrated on legislation related to his committee assignments. During the Budget process Congressman Putnam offered successful Budget Committee report language on Social Security and Medicare reform. He was selected by Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest to serve as Member of the House delegation to the Summit of the Americas in Quebec, Canada. As Vice Chairman of the Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Putnam chaired hearings on terrorism and worked closely with other Members of the Committee leadership to address issues ranging from terrorism to protecting and maximizing the use of the Avon Park Air Force Bombing Range in Florida.

Congressman Putnam served as President of the Florida 4-H Foundation, and is a member of the Polk County Farm Bureau and the Polk County Historical Association. In 1995 Mr. Putnam was named the Outstanding Male Graduate of the University of Florida.

On January 3, 2001 Congressman Adam Putnam was sworn in, at age 26, as the youngest Member of the 107th Congress. Now in his second term, Mr. Putnam remains the youngest Member of Congress.
