U.S. Foreign Waterborne Transportation Statistics

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today released the May 2004 preliminary U.S. foreign waterborne transportation statistics.  These statistics are based on the U.S. Bureau of the Census trade data matched to the U.S. Customs vessel entrances and clearances, enhanced by the U.S. Maritime Administration.  Year-to-date figures through May 2004 show an increase in volume of 8% for imports and an increase of 12% for exports over the same time period for 2003.  The following cargo summary contains value and weight information by type of service on U.S. waterborne imports and exports for May 2004, along with year-to-date figures.  Inbound and outbound in-transit data are not included.
