Information for Health Professionals and Your Patients

For Your Female Patients

There are numerous sources - and sometimes overwhelming amounts - of information about health and disease topics available to your patients, especially those with access to the Internet. Many patients are taking advantage of the wealth of information available online to do extensive research on their health concerns. Credibility and quality of information can be a problem, whether information comes from a web site, a popular magazine, a newspaper, a radio or TV program, or a friend or other source.

Now you can give your patients reliable, accurate sources of health information! The following resources from the National Women's Health Information Center (NWHIC) are developed from current research and recommendations from the federal government and health professional organizations. Share with your patients:

  • Information on a wide range of women's health topics through hundreds of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) fact sheets (http://www.4woman.gov/faq/) and through NWHIC's toll-free call center, (800-994-WOMAN (9662). The FAQs may be copied or reproduced as handouts for patients.

  • Links to hundreds of other reliable sources of health information through a database search feature on the NWHIC web site and at the end of each FAQ.

  • NWHIC's exclusive prevention guide for women, A Lifetime of Good Health: Your Guide to Staying Healthy. Also available by calling 800-994-WOMAN (9662)).

  • NWHIC's exclusive preventive health charts for women, Screening and Immunizations Guidelines for Women and Immunizations for Women with High Risk Factors. These charts compile screening guidelines for several health conditions all in one place.

  • NWHIC's exclusive annual Women's Health Daybook. These beautiful calendars are packed full of useful health information for women and can be saved every year as valuable resources. Call 800-994-WOMAN (9662) to order. You also can download the daybook from the web site (http://www.4woman.gov/) to copy or call 800-994-WOMAN (9662) to request an electronic copy that you can professionally print for your own organization.

  • Free NWHIC brochures and magnets to give to your patients. Call 800-994-WOMAN (9662) to request these items.
