Laboratory of Cell Signaling
Sue Goo Rhee, PhD, Chief
Laboratory of Cell Signaling Research in this laboratory is primarily
concerned with (A) a transmembrane signaling cascade involving the
hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate by phospholipase
C (PLC) and (B) characterization of noble peroxidases which we discovered
a number of years ago. Specific projects deal with mechanisms that
couples various receptor functions to PLC isozymes and the role
of hydrogen peroxide in cell signaling. The latter item is a long
term goal that evolved from our conviction that the function of
the newly discovered peroxidases is not only to eliminate deleterious
peroxides generated during oxygen metabolism but perhaps also to
modulate cell signaling by controlling the concentration of putative
second messenger hydrogen peroxide.
