Participants will learn how to compete more effectively for National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. The format will be an interactive "how to" workshop. Experts will address issues such as developing an NIH grant proposal, devising budgets, and the peer review process. The meeting is organized by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) in partnership with the NIH, Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institute of Mental Health, National Center for Alternative and Complementary Medicine, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), and the Mexican National Institute of Public Health.

The meeting is by invitation only. Participants from Latin America and the Caribbean must have a strong scientific background as evidenced by a meritorious biomedical publications record and stated interest and/or experience in conducting scientific research related to infectious diseases, environmental health, maternal and child health, mental health, nutrition (including dietary supplements), cancer, and traditional medicine/CAM.
