Alan Friedman is a partner in the Los Angeles
firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and represents private and
public employers in all aspects of labor relations and labor and
employment law. He is a past president of the Labor Law Section
of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. A graduate of the University
of Pennsylvania, he received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve
University Law School, and an LL.M. from the Georgetown University
Law Center. Mr. Friedman served in the office of the Solicitor of
the U.S. Department of Labor, with extensive work in labor relations
and civil rights law.
He has chaired the Civil Service Commission of
Los Angeles and was labor relations counsel to the 1984 Los Angeles
Olympic Organizing Committee.
Mr. Friedman is a member of the American Bar
Association (Labor and Employment Law Section), the California Bar
Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Labor and
Employment Law Section). He lectures on labor law topics at various
universities and seminars and is the former editor of an ABA publication,
Law Notes, for labor law issues.
Mr. Friedman is also a fellow of The College
of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and on the Board of and past president
of both Bet Tzedek (House of Justice) Legal Services Foundation
and the Constitutional Rights Foundation, which is engaged in civic
education of youth across the country.
In October, 1999, Mr. Friedman was appointed
by the joint leadership of the United States Congress to a five
year term on the Board of Directors of the Office of Compliance.
