*This packet is only available online. This teaching packet is appropriate for grades K-3. Students will learn basic concepts for visualizing objects from different perspectives and how to understand and use maps.

The lessons center on a story about a little girl named Nikki who visits an imaginary amusement park. Nikki goes up in an unplanned balloon ride that gives her, and the students, different views of the park.

Seven lessons investigate the concepts of understanding and reading maps. Please consult The Teacher's Guide, which describes each lesson and provides a list of student handouts that can be downloaded and reproduced. The lessons include:

Lesson 1: View From the ground
Lesson 2: View from a Higher Point
Lesson 3: View from Overhead
Lesson 4: Symbols and Legends
Lesson 5: Learning Directions on a Map
