January 15, 2002: EPA Announces Water Quality Standards Academy Sessions

On January 15, 2002, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that two sessions of the Water Quality Standards Academy Basic Course will be held in the Washington DC area on February 25-March 1, 2002, and March 11-15, 2002. The Water Quality Standards Academy - Basic Course is a five-day basic introductory course designed for those with fewer than six months of experience with water quality standards. Others may also benefit from the course, including veterans of the water quality standards program who want a refresher course. This comprehensive and highly structured course introduces participants to all aspects of the water quality standards program, including the interpretation and application of the water quality standards regulation; policies and program guidance; the development of water quality criteria (human health, aquatic life, sediment, nutrient and biological); and all other facets of the program.

For further information and to sign up online, see http://www.epa.gov/ost/standards/academy.html. When applying, please specify which of the two identical sessions you are interested in attending. There is no fee for the course, but advance reservations are required. Because seating is very limited, the EPA reserves the right to accept applications based on establishing a balanced mix of participants. If there are questions after reviewing the online material, contact: Thomas J. Gardner; US EPA HQ (MC 4305); 1200 Pennsylvania Ave NW; Washington DC 20460; telephone: (202) 260-7309; facsimile: (202) 260-9830; e-mail: gardner.thomas@epa.gov.
