A Request for Applications (RFA) is a formal statement that invites grant or cooperative
agreement applications in a well-defined scientific area to accomplish specific
program objectives. The RFA indicates the estimated amount of funds set aside
for the competition, the estimated number of awards to be made, and the application
receipt date(s). Applications submitted in response to an RFA usually are reviewed
by an initial review group convened by the Institute and Center that issued the
RFA.
