FY 2003 Priorities
NATIONAL CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (CDC)
Research: CDC will conduct research to study the antecedents and other
factors related to food- borne outbreaks and develop prevention interventions
including:
- research to understand the underlying environmental causes of
food-borne illness and outbreaks.
- development and implementation of methods to conduct environmental
investigations of food-borne outbreaks.
- development of methods for assessing the effectiveness of food
protection programs in preventing food-borne illness.
Evaluations:
- evaluate existing intervention strategies utilized by food protection
programs to prevent food-borne illness and outbreaks.
- evaluate the needs assessment and gap analysis of local food safety
programs conducted in FY 2000 and FY 2001. The focus is on training needs of
local health departments that are not met by current federal efforts.
- development of methods for assessing the effectiveness of food
protection programs in preventing food-borne illness.
