LINDA RICHTER,
Ph.D.
Linda Richter, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of a national research programme Child, Youth and Family Development in the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa. She is also a Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Natal, an Honorary Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of the Witwatersrand and a consultant to the HIV Prevention and Vaccine Trials Unit at the South African Medical Research Council.
For many
years Dr. Richter has been a member and chaired the Technical Steering
Committee of the Department of Child and Adolescent Health at the World Health
Organization in Geneva. In South
Africa, she is a member of the Professional Board for Psychology and a member
of the Essential National Health Research Committee in the Department of
Health.
Dr. Richter
has published in the fields of child and adolescent development, HIV/AIDS, women’s
issues, and the status of the psychology profession in South Africa. She is the co-author, with Oscar Barbarin,
of Mandela’s Children: Growing up in post-apartheid South Africa
published by Routledge earlier this year.
