Anant Singh
heads Videovision Entertainment, a diversified entertainment company with core
interests in film and television production, distribution, and selected media
activities. Mr. Singh has produced some
of the most prevailing films to come out of South Africa, including Place Of Weeping; Cry, The Beloved Country; and Sarafina! He
has produced over 50 films in the past 16 years.
Mr. Singh holds
the coveted film rights to Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom, which will be made into an epic film in the
vein of Gandhi and Lawrence of Arabia. Mr. Singh is a film producer of
international repute and has produced films in the United States, United
Kingdom, and Hong Kong. In addition, Mr. Singh acquired the South African rights
to the international hit game show Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire, which he also produces.
Mr. Singh serves in various capacities with a
number of organisations, including Director of South African Tourism (SATOUR),
and member of the International Marketing Council of South Africa; the National
Advisory Council, Maryville College, Tennessee, U.S.A.; the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences; and the Board Of Governors For Media And
Entertainment of the World Economic Forum.
Mr.Singh has
received many accolades for his pioneering work in the South African film
industry, including the Legendary Award from the Women In Film organisation
(1997), an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Port Elizabeth (1998), the
Distinguished Producer Award from the Wine Country Film Festival in Northern
California (1998), an Honorary Doctorate from the University of
Durban-Westville (2000), and the Crystal Award from the World Economic Forum
(2001).
