SUNITI SOLOMON, M.D.

 

 

In 1986, Suniti Solomon M.D. and colleagues documented the first evidence of HIV infection in India.  Dr. Solomon set up the first voluntary testing and counselling centre and an AIDS Research Group in Madras.  In 1993, she founded YRG CARE, a non-profit centre that offers HIV and sexuality education for adolescents and young adults, voluntary counselling and testing services, integrated care for people living with HIV, and also conducts medical and behavioural research.  She offers services for pregnant women living with HIV.  She is a member of the core team supporting the Prevention of Vertical Transmission of the NACO, India.  Dr. Solomon is the India site PI for NIMH Multisite HIV/STD Prevention Trial and for NIAID’s HPTN in the Fenway-Brown-YRG CARE HPTN.  Her interests cover a range of HIV issues – biological and social research, community education and mobilisation, bioethics, adolescent sexuality and HIV clinical and laboratory services.
