Konglai Zhang, M.D. is
Director of China AIDS Network, an NGO that has been emphasizing research and
intervention on social/behavior aspects as well as on policy development. He has been working on HIV issues for more
10 years and has served as member of the National Expert Consultation Committee
in charge of the group that involves the above said issues on HIV/AIDS.
Since the early 1990s, with
his graduate students, he started working on research projects among taxi
drivers and hotel attendants in Beijing, long-distance lorry drivers working in
the province bordering Vietnam, overseas workers, prostitutes detained in the
detention centers in Beijing, Nanjing, DaLian and Xian cities and
municipalities, female and male detainees in Shengzhen (which borders Hong
Kong), health-care seeking behavior among patients with STDs, feasibility of
integration HIV/AIDS services to the Family Planning Institute, behavioral
studies among drug users, needs assessment of sex education and awareness on
HIV among high school students in Beijing, intervention studies among coal
miners on HIV issues, social and economic impact to the community related to
HIV, educational and invention studies among female workers in the rural
entertaining settings in the southern part of China. He has been engaged in condom promotion in China and in the
development of Mid-term Plans of the country.
Zhang has served as short-term consultant to many international organizations, including as WHO, UNDP, and UNICEF and has shared his views on HIV in China at many international and national conferences.
