NIH Research Training Opportunities:
K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award

Jump to:   [ List of Awards ]    [ K30 E-Mail Lists ]    [ Contacts ]

The NIH developed this program to attract talented individuals to the challenges of clinical research and to provide them with the critical skills that are needed to develop hypotheses and conduct sound research. The Clinical Research Curriculum Award (CRCA) is an award to institutions. It supports the NIH’s efforts to improve the quality of training in clinical research.

This award is intended to:

  1. support the development of new didactic programs in clinical research at institutions that do not currently offer them, or
  2. support the improvement or expansion of programs at institutions with existing programs.

There is a core of knowledge and skills common to all areas of clinical research that should form the foundation of the well-trained, independent clinical researcher.

Formal course work includes:

  • design of clinical research projects
  • hypothesis development
  • biostatistics
  • epidemiology
  • legal, ethical, and regulatory issues related to clinical research

The CRCA is a trans-NIH program that is being administered by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). An NIH Coordinating Committee participates in all phases of the Program. In addition to NHLBI awards, two institutions have received awards separately from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).

This program is consistent with the recommendations of the NIH Director's Panel on Clinical Research, as well as those from the Institute of Medicine Committee on Addressing Career Paths for Clinical Research.

Institutions that have received K30 awards are listed below, sorted by principal investigator (click on buttons to display with a different sort). Click the links in the "Institution" column to access the e-mail address, phone, fax, mailing address and other details about the Principal Investigator and other Key Personnel at that Institution. Links in the "Grant #" column lead to Grant Abstracts, if available and the "Links/Files" column contains links to Institution ethics courses and information. In addition, E-Mail Lists for all PIs and Key Personnel as well as the contact for comments and/or updates, are available below.

For updated information about the K30 award, please see the NIH Guide Notice of September 13, 2002.
