TVA’s role in recreation across the Tennessee Valley will be discussed at the next Regional Resource Stewardship Council meeting in Knoxville on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 10-11.

The council, created to advise TVA on the management of natural resources in the Tennessee Valley, will meet from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday in TVA’s West Tower Auditorium.

TVA’s current role in recreation management, a national perspective on recreation and recreation trends, and discussions by regional, state and commercial recreation providers are on the agenda.

Council meetings are open to the public and include a public-comment period, which is scheduled from 9:20-10:20 a.m. Thursday. Anyone wanting to make comments at the meeting should register at the door. Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to no more than five minutes. Up to an hour will be allotted for public comments, with participation available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hand-out materials should be limited to one printed page.

‘Read With Me’ Program Looking for Knoxville-Area Volunteers
Team TVA volunteers from the Knoxville area are needed to help with the Read With Me program sponsored by the Knox County Mayor’s office.

Read With Me is a partnership of schools, businesses, parents and volunteers working together to improve the reading skills of children.

Volunteers are needed to spend an hour from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesdays during the school year. They will read with two classes of first-graders at Lonsdale Elementary, a TVA Partners In Education school. Those who wish to volunteer must obtain approval from their supervisor.

Employees are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible by e-mailing Robin Robinson in Knoxville or calling her at (632-7119).

Chattanooga Engineers Club Meeting Today
The Chattanooga Engineers Club will meet at noon today at the Read House in downtown Chattanooga.

Jeff Muhs from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Engineering Science & Technology Division will discuss hybrid lighting. Muhs says research under way at ORNL could lead to new and highly energy-efficient ways of lighting buildings using the power of sunlight. In addition to providing light, the new technology would convert sunlight to electricity much more efficiently than conventional solar technologies. Muhs says studies have indicated that lighting in commercial buildings accounts for more than a third of all electricity consumed for commercial use in the United States.

A buffet lunch for $10 will be available for attendees beginning at 11:30 a.m. Free parking (for those who leave a notice on their dash indicating they are with the Chattanooga Engineers Club) is available for attendees at the Day’s Inn on Carter Street.

Reservations are not required, and guests are welcome. For more information, call Richard Smith at 751-7024 or Brad Baucom at 648-3582.

The eighth installment of the video series Understanding & Managing Difficult Dementia Behaviors by Mary Lucero will be shown at this meeting. The half-hour video will be followed by a discussion period.

The support group meets monthly to give caregivers and others the opportunity to share and learn from one another’s experiences.

Those attending are welcome to bring a lunch. For more information, e-mail or call the Group Facilitator, Gloria Freeney (751-2534).
