Rogers To Rejoin TVA as VP of Transmission Operations & Maintenance
Terry Boston, Executive Vice President of Transmission/Power Supply, has announced that former TPS employee Ron Rogers has been named Vice President of Transmission Operations & Maintenance.

Rogers, who retired from TVA in 1999, is scheduled to begin his new assignment Oct. 20. He succeeds Tom Hancock, former VP of TOM, who retired earlier this year.

Rogers has 27 years of experience in TVA’s transmission organizations, in addition to four years in the private sector in civil/structural engineering for transmission and distribution systems.

“Ron’s wealth of knowledge about the TVA system and his broad familiarity with transmission-maintenance issues will help TVA continue to achieve world-class performance in reliable power delivery,” says Boston.

After earning a degree in electrical engineering in 1971 at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Rogers began his career with TVA as a field engineer. He has worked in a variety of transmission-maintenance positions, including serving as lead engineer for Power System Operations at Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant during its commissioning. His previous TVA career also included serving as a staff specialist working with major power equipment, responsibility for operations and maintenance of the transmission system in areas of Kentucky and Tennessee, the management of construction projects and many other duties in TPS operations. Since his retirement about four years ago, Rogers has worked for MESA & Associates Inc., a Chattanooga-based engineering firm.

“I would also like to thank TPS employees David Hall and Sheliah Baker for their hard work and cooperation during the past six months,” says Boston. “Their leadership during this transition period has allowed TPS to continue the trend of 99.999-percent reliability of transmission service to TVA customers.”

Hall, who assumed the duties of Vice President of the TOM organization on a rotational assignment, will return to his position as Vice President of Electric System Projects.

Baker, currently serving as Acting Vice President of Electric System Projects, will return to her position as Manager of Project Support Services in ESP.

Knoxville Employees Kick Off Smoky Mountain CFC
Knoxville-area employees had an opportunity to talk with representatives from 10 charities to learn more about their work at the Smoky Mountain Region Combined Federal Campaign Fair yesterday on the Plaza.

Director Skila Harris, who was 2001 Executive Campaign Chair, introduced guest speaker Terry Norris of NASA. Norris, who has a Master’s degree in electrical engineering, was homeless at age 12½, but credits a federal employee's generosity and knowledge of CFC resources for the services he received that eventually led to his success.

LeAnne Stribley, Executive Campaign Manager of TVA's Smoky Mountain CFC and TVA Executive Vice President of Administration, made remarks. South-Doyle High School singers provided entertainment.

A second kickoff event, hosted by Stribley and Terrell Burkhart, VP of Facilities Management, was held for second-shift employees at 6 p.m. in West Tower Plaza, room 407.

Winners of door prizes at the TVA Plaza drawing are Dale Noe, Information Services; Angie Goode, Human Resources; Steven Ranuek, Information Services; and Debbie Singleton, TVA Police. Winners of door prizes at the Howard Baker Federal Courthouse Building Courtyard are Wilma Seay, Social Security Administration; Brenda Therry, Housing & Urban Development; Sandy Pittman, U.S. Probation Office; and Barbara Cole, U.S. Postal Service.

This year's Smoky Mountain Region CFC fundraising goal is $450,000.

Other events scheduled as part of the Smoky Mountain Region CFC include a golf tournament Sept. 22, a Chili & Dessert Cook-Off on Oct. 8 and other Days of Caring activities. More information about these events will be announced soon.
