Latest Issue of TVA River Neighbors Looks at TVA Wildlife Projects
The October 2003 issue of TVA River Neighbors – a newsletter for people who live near the Tennessee River, its tributaries and reservoirs – spotlights a variety of TVA projects for wildlife-habitat enhancement that have been certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council.

The WHC is a Maryland-based nonprofit organization that encourages environmentally friendly corporate efforts across the country.

The feature story highlights wildlife projects at TVA’s Muscle Shoals Reservation, Colbert Fossil Plant and Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant. Employee teams at these sites have joined with community groups to maintain wildlife food plots; to provide artificial nesting structures for bluebirds, wood ducks and other birds; to establish native-grass and wildflower meadows; and to stabilize stream banks and shorelines.

The October issue also includes an explanation of how and why TVA spills water from its dams, information on recent revisions to regulations governing shoreline construction, and advice for community groups seeking funds for watershed-improvement projects. In addition, this issue includes a story about TVA’s Thousand Eyes stewardship project, which is aimed at protecting archaeological sites on public lands, as well as an article on the completion of marathon swimmer Mimi Hughes’s five-year quest to swim the 652-mile length of the Tennessee River.

TVA River Neighbors is published three times a year and is available on TVA’s public Web site http://www.tva.com/river/neighbors. Printed copies can be requested by sending an e-mail to riverneighbors@tva.com.

Chattanooga Area CFC Donations Exceed 46 Percent of Goal
To date, Chattanooga-area employees have pledged about $684,300 toward the goal of collecting more than $1.5 million in the 2003 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign. That’s a little more than 46 percent of the goal.

The campaign is scheduled to end in mid-November, in order to allow several organizations that have had work conflicts to complete their campaigns.

Chattanooga employees are reminded they can help advance the campaign toward its goal by turning in their pledge cards by Oct. 21, if at all possible.

Two organizations leading Chattanooga CFC effort
Chattanooga Area CFC campaign organizers congratulate the Bulk Power Trading and Power Resources & Operations Planning groups for leading the way in the 2003 campaign.

The two groups currently have 100-percent and 90.5-percent participation, respectively, and collectively have pledged more than $53,000.

Other groups, including several plants, are working hard to meet with employees to discuss how their contributions can result in more “Caring for our Communities.” Chattanooga-area TVA employees are well known for their generosity and helping those in need, so campaign organizers encourage them to turn in their pledge cards soon.
