Center for Transportation Analysis (CTA) at ORNL Conducts research and development on transportation energy and environmental issues, national transportation planning and policy, transportation systems engineering, and military transportation and logistics More information is available at www-cta.ornl.gov Department of Energy (DOE)-Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) The Center conducts innovative, cost-effective research and development on transportation energy and environmental issues, national transportation planning and policy, transportation systems engineering, and military transportation and logistics. CTA focuses on multimodal national and international transportation systems. Using interdisciplinary, systems-based approaches, staff members develop and apply advanced computational techniques, analytical methods, and information resources to improve economic and energy efficiency, environmental quality, mobility, national security, and public safety. A mixture of technical and scientific backgrounds and diverse project sponsorships strengthens CTA's interdisciplinary approach to problem solving. Staff expertise includes transportation engineering, applied geography, transportation economics, operations research, computer science, and other physical and social sciences. Projects range from short-term studies or analyses to relationships which last for more than a decade like our current relationship with the Air Mobility Command (AMC) for the development of mobility planning tools. The web site includes: Transportation Energy Data Book: Designed as a desk-top reference, the data book includes statistics and other information that characterize transportation activity and/or influence transportation energy use. The Transportation Energy Data Book: Edition 21 is available in pdf format by clicking on the above link and is also available in hard copy. To obtain a free copy, contact Stacy Davis. Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey: The survey and earlier surveys in the NPTS series yield important data on the travel behavior of the American population. The NPTS series provides data to examine the relationship among social and demographic change, land development patterns, and transportation. This internet-based analysis tool allows on-the-fly analysis by simple "points and clicks." Projecting Fatalities in Crashes Involving Older Drivers: This site reports CTA projections of highway traffic fatalities that involve older drivers. Realtime Traffic Data: Measuring the performance of the nation's highway system This site displays measures of vehicle travel and traffic congestion derived from automated traffic sensor data for four U.S. cities with approximately a half-hour delay. It is intended as a proof-of-concept for a future national, web-based traffic data collection and performance monitoring system. To inquire about this site please contact: Shih-Miao Chin CTA Transportation Networks: The CTA Transportation Networks are geographically based link-node networks of major roadways and all active railroads in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. While intended primarily for network analyses (such as routing, traffic assignment, investment, and reliability analyses), the geographic base also supports cartographic applications and the association of auxiliary data that also has a geographic base.
