Unit Sets Continuous-Run Record The unit completed a 260-day run Sept. 2, exceeding the units previous continuous-run record of 226 days set in December 1999. The unit came offline due to a boiler-tube leak after having operated continuously since Dec. 15, 2002. During this run, the 48-year-old unit generated more than 956,000 megawatt-hours of electricity, enough to serve about 64,000 homes for a year.
The Colbert plant is located on the south shore of Pickwick Landing Reservoir in Colbert County, Ala. It has five generating units, with a net generating capacity of 1,204 megawatts.

Moment of Silence at 8:46 Thursday Morning To Honor Sept. 11 Victims Many TVA employees plan to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. EDT, as encouraged by a Presidential proclamation. Some employees also have indicated they plan to wear red, white and blue to commemorate the day. Knoxville-area Team TVA volunteers will participate in United Way Day of Caring projects in memory of Sept. 11. Projects include helping with the painting of exterior buildings at the Tanasi Girl Scout camp, a food drive and a clothing drive. TVA locations having special observances on Thursday can e-mail Dan Adair by 3 p.m. EDT today, and these observances will be listed in Wednesdays TVA Today. The following should be included in the e-mail: In the subject line 9/11; in the message the full name of the site where the observance will be held and the nature of the observance. A joint resolution by Congress in December 2001 designated Sept. 11 each year as Patriot Day. The Presidential proclamation for this years Patriot Day encourages U.S. citizens to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services and candlelight vigils. The proclamation also calls for the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff at government facilities, as well as at the homes of Americans who display the flag, to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.
