Jo Ann Davis was elected to Congress in November 2000 to her first term as representative of Virginia’s 1st district. In 2002 she was re-elected to her second term, and was subsequently named by Tom Davis (VA-11), Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Civil Service and Agency Organization.
Chairwoman Davis has over 36,000 active and retired federal employees in her district, and is rapidly becoming a leader in issues related to civil service and federal employees. She believes strongly in public service and wants to focus the subcommittee’s efforts on making the Federal Government a more attractive place to work and improve its operating efficiency. A number of important initiatives, which the Chairwoman is interested in pursuing, are contained within the President’s Management Agenda as well as a report by the National Commission on the Public Service, titled, Urgent Business for America: Revitalizing the Federal Government for the 21st Century.
