About the CMHS Child, Adolescent and Family Program
The Child, Adolescent, and Family Branch of the Federal Center for Mental Health Services promotes and ensures that the mental health needs of children and their families are met within the context of community-based systems of care.

This page of facts illustrates mental health issues for children, explains some of the causes of mental health problems, and provides helpful resources.

Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services Program for Children
A goal of the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services Program for Children is to improve the delivery of mental health services and supports to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances, and their families, who need help from more than one service system.

Caring for Every Child's Mental Health
The Caring for Every Child's Mental Health communications campaign began as a national public information and education campaign with the following goals: to increase public awareness about the importance of protecting and nurturing the mental health of young people; to foster recognition that many children have mental health problems that are real, painful, and sometimes severe; and to encourage caregivers to seek early and appropriate treatment and services.

15+ Make Time to Listen, Take Time to Talk
The 15+ Make Time to Listen...Take Time to Talk campaign is based on the premise that parents who talk with their children about what is happening in their lives are better able to guide their children toward more positive, skill-enhancing activities and friendships. The campaign provides practical guidance for parents and caregivers on how to strengthen their relationship with their children by spending at least 15 minutes of daily, undivided time with them and focusing on them.

School Violence Prevention
CMHS' School Violence Prevention Program is targeted at improving mental health services for children with emotional and behavioral disorders who are at risk of violent behavior, and to focus on developing the integrated continuum of prevention, early intervention, and treatment.

After a Disaster: A Guide for Parents and Teachers
Children respond to trauma in many different ways. Some may have reactions very soon after the event; others may seem to be doing fine for weeks or months, then begin to show worrisome behavior. Knowing the signs that are common at different ages can help parents and teachers to recognize problems and respond appropriately. This page provides information on these topics.

GIRL POWER! is paving the way for girls to build confidence, competence, and pride in themselves, in other words, enhancing girls' mental wellness. Girl Power! is also providing messages and materials to girls about the risks and consequences associated with substance abuse and with potential mental health concerns.
