Renewable
Energy Annual 2002 with Preliminary Data for 2002
The
Renewable Energy Annual 2002 is the eighth annual report that
the Energy Information Administration (EIA) has published on
U.S. renewable energy. The report covers energy consumption
and electricity generation, as well as solar thermal, photovoltaic,
and geothermal heat pump manufacturing activities. The renewable
energy resources in the report include: biomass, wood, wood
waste, municipal solid waste, landfill gas, ethanol, and other
waste, as well as, wind, solar, solar thermal and photovoltaic
and hydropower.

Annual
Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Manufacturing Activities
This
information is based on data reported on Form EIA-63A, "Annual
Solar Thermal Collector Manufacturing Survey" and Form
EIA-63B, "Annual Photovoltaic Module/Cell Manufacturing
Survey."
Annual
Geothermal Heat Pump Shipments
This information
is based on data filed on the EIA’s Form EIA-902, "Annual
Geothermal Heat Pump Manufacturers Survey."
Renewable
Legislation and Incentives
This
web page covers public laws, proposed laws, and state incentives
impacting the renewable energy marketplace.
Renewables
in Electricity
This
web page addresses a broad range of issues regarding renewables
in electricity such as, but not limited to: tax and financial
incentives; re-evaluation of renewable energy policies; electric
utility and non-utility power from renewables; legislative incentives
that favor renewables in electricity; net metering; renewable
portfolio standard; and transmission issues for renewable energy.

Consumption and Renewable Energy Development Potential on Indian
Lands
This
report contains new analysis of energy issues for Indian lands.
Renewable
Energy 2000: Issues and Trends
The Renewable Energy Issues and Trends is the second in a series
of biannual analysis reports on topical renewable energy issues.
This report presents four articles that cover various aspects
of renewable energy.
Articles
Renewable
Energy 1998: Issue and Trends
The Renewable Energy Issues and Trends is the first in an expected
series of biannual analysis of topical renewable energy issues.
This report presents five articles that cover various aspects
of renewable energy.
Articles
- Renewable
Electricity Purchases: History and Recent Developments
This article presents an analysis of prices of renewable-based
electricity that utilities have paid to nonutilities, the
primary generators of renewable electricity.
- Transmission
Pricing Issues For Electricity Generation From Renewable Resources
This article examines the effects on renewable-generated electricity
of transmission tariffs in an "open access" environment.
Among the factors discussed are congestion pricing and the
role of Independent System Operators.
- Analysis
of Geothermal Heat Pump Manufacturers Survey Data
This article presents the results of the first-two Energy
Information Administration (EIA) surveys of shipments of geothermal
heat pumps. The article also includes a technical discussion
of heat pumps, including their classification and system economics
along with a case study of the United States Army's Fort Polk
military base in Leesville, Louisiana, the largest installation
of geothermal heat pumps in the world.
- A
View of the Forest Products Industry From a Wood Energy Perspective
This article which examines the forestry, lumber, wood products,
pulp and paper industries, describes the composition and operations
of biomass, which is the largest of the non-hydroelectric
renewable energy sectors. An understanding of this industry
is necessary to establish a proper appraisal of the role of
biomass, and wood in particular, in a new renewable-based
generation of electricity.
- Wind
Energy Developments: Incentives In Selected Countries
This
article examines the wind energy programs in the United States,
Germany, Denmark an India, especially in terms of available
support mechanisms. The major difference between the United
States and the other countries analyzed is the price guaranteed
for wind energy. United States producers receive between one-half
and two-thirds of the price level guaranteed to producers
in the other countries.
Chapter
5: Issues for Renewable Fuels in Competitive Electricity
Markets
This chapter covers the role of renewable energy sources in
competitive electricity markets.
Renewable
Resources in the U.S. Electricity Supply
This
report provides an introductory overview of current and long-term
forecasted uses of renewable resources in the Nation's electricity
market-place, the largest domestic application of renewable
resources today.
